Cleaning tips and tricks

White Vinegar/ Lemon Juice/ Citric Acid

Did you know that any of these 3 substances are amazing at limescale removal?

Pick one put it on the limescale for 5 minutes and wipe away. Use a WET 1p/2p coin to gently scrape any left over limescale away.

Super easy and super effective.

Extra tip: If there is a lot of build up, put your product onto a microfiber cloth and allow the cloth to sit on or wrap around the limescale. This may need to be done a few times for extreme build up.

This is just one of the methods we use for limescale.

Bad Odours

Depending on the source of the odour would depend on what to do here.

For moisture such as urine, sick, wet shoes etc clean up the initial mess as usual and then work bicarb soda into the area. Allow to dry thoroughly VERY IMPORTANT.

At this point use the vacuum to get any loose bicarb powder.

If there are any white marks from the powder, wipe down with a damp cloth.

If the odour is from something that has already dried in or the first method didn't work then isopropyl alcohol is the answer. Either wet a cloth with the alcohol and wipe the area with odour or pour the alcohol directly to the area.

It does smell very strong but once dry the smell goes, taking the original bad odour with it.

White vinegar is rumoured to be good at removing bad odours too. However, I haven't personally tried it.

Fine dust

We recently had a client ask about removing plaster dust and also dust from tile cutting. They couldn't understand why they were continually cleaning it but still finding the build up of dust everywhere.

While it may be tempting to just grab something such as a brush or feather duster. Usually this is not the best way to deal with fine dust as it can just dissipate into the air to be breathed in or settle back down. In fact, this stands for all dry wipe methods in this circumstance.

The best way can be time consuming but it ensures quality results that last.

____________

Firstly, invest in a HEPA filtered air purifier. This is to filter the air and remove any particles lingering around. Let this run as soon as possible for at least two weeks after deep cleaning top to bottom.

Put all appliances, utensils etc in the middle of the floor for easy access all the way around the room.

Then move on to the deep cleaning process.

Start at the top - The ceiling - For this I would suggest a large, damp microfibre, flat mop. Using a single wipe, rinse, wring, dry and repeat process. Making sure the pad is clean so as not to smudge dirt around in the process. To dry, a second flat mop may be useful.

I would then suggest starting from the top left corner of the room with a damp cloth. Work your way down the wall a section at a time using the same wipe, rinse, wring, dry and repeat as before. Making sure the cloth stays clean.

When working your way down, if you come across any ledges, surfaces, lips etc. Be sure to wipe across them to collect all the dust collected there too. Remembering to rinse and wring thoroughly every time you wipe.

Do this until you have been all the way around the room and end up at the final bottom right corner.

At this point it is time to do the same process for the items in the middle of the room. Starting with smaller items and returning them to the surfaces you cleaned earlier.

Vacuum and flat mop the floor all over (minus where the large appliances still are). Wipe down all appliances inside and out, ensuring to get in the seals and crevices with a damp cloth and then dry. Work from top to bottom.

Get a damp cloth, tilt your appliance slightly back (may need a second person) wipe bottom of appliance, rinse and wring cloth wipe floor and dry area do the same but with the back of the appliance.

Put the appliance back where it belongs.

Use the flat mop again to mop the floor and collect any remaining dust. then use a dry flat mop to dry the floor.

At this point the room in question is ready for a standard clean and move on.

All rooms in the premises will need to be treated with the same method to ensure there's no transferring between rooms.
